Dear SYJCC Family, Community and Stakeholders,

As you know, every day, SYJCC provides social, recreational and educational programs that enrich our community. New programs launch nearly every day, community partnerships continue to increase in numbers and our members are excited for the future. I hope you have enjoyed some of these new programs and notice improvements to those that have existed for years. With that said, there is so much more to be done as we grow our culture of continuous improvement and we need your help.

The safety and well-being of our members, staff and guests is our most important obligation to you. We live in uncertain times that foster feelings of anxiety and worry which have been elevated since a rash of non-credible threats have been made to JCCs nationwide. While I am confident that our SYJCC team is ready at any moment to respond to a crisis as they have been trained and have consistently demonstrated during drills, now more than ever, we recognize the need to upgrade our security systems and technology. We must have the most advanced tools to stay ahead of the curve of what is necessary to ensure safety. Incremental upgrades to aging security systems had been planned however, we now believe that a comprehensive overhaul is warranted. Investing in security has become a priority which has an estimated cost of $175,000, or less than $100 per membership.

You can play a pivotal role and help improve your SYJCC. The SYJCC Board of Directors’ Fundraising Committee has designated a $50,000 gift from an anonymous donor to be used as a kick-off to a time-limited capital campaign to upgrade security. This campaign will end on March 31, 2017. We hope that you will consider making a tax deductible contribution to SYJCC and if your employer has a matching gift program, we would greatly appreciate their support as well. The proceeds of the campaign – 100% of your contribution – will be used solely for security upgrades and you will see the results. The speed at which we are able to reach or exceed our goal will determine the breadth and scope of the upgrades.

Whether you are a parent of a child in our Day Care, Camp, or Butler Special Needs programs, daily user of our Fitness and Aquatics Center, participant in our senior programming, current or former employee, an occasional visitor to the facility or a general supporter of our organization, we hope you will join us and participate in this campaign to help improve the safety of our children, seniors and everybody in between.
