FAQ's

Below you can find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions about the SYJCC Summer Camps. If you cannot find the information you are looking for, please feel free to contact us.

Q. WHAT ARE THE CAMP HOURS?

A. Camp Wonderland & Theater Camp hours are 10:00-4:00. Camp Wonderland for 3-year-olds takes place from 10:00-2:00. Junior, Tween & Sports Camp hours are from 9:00-4:00. Before & after care hours are available from 7:00-6:00pm for all camps at an additional fee.

Q. DOES THE SYJCC OFFER TRANSPORTATION?

A. Transportation for all Junior, Tween & Sports Campers is available for $85 per week. There is no transportation for Wonderland or Theater Camp. Please contact us for more information at 631.462.9800 ext. 105. For your convenience, shuttle bus service is available for all Junior, Tween & Sports Campers to & from the SYJCC at no additional cost. There is no transportation for extended days.

Q. MY CHILD IS NOT COMFORTABLE SWIMMING BUT I WANT HIM/HER TO LEARN HOW TO SWIM.

A. The SYJCC camps prides itself on its swim program. We follow the American Red Cross swim curriculum which has been proven to teach skills to even the most hesitant swimmer. Our swim staff is trained to work with campers of all swim abilities, using games & toys to make children more comfortable in the water. Our goal is to have every camper progress in the pool. Swim groups are small to ensure all campers have proper supervision. The aquatics department sends progress reports home every two weeks in order for parents to track their children’s progress. Many campers have even competed in the SYJCC’s swim team as a result of their camp swim experience.

Q. HOW ARE CAMPERS GROUPED? CAN I REQUEST TO HAVE MY CHILD BE WITH THEIR FRIENDS?

A. Campers are grouped based on the grade in school they are entering in the fall. Wonderland (K-2nd grade), Junior, Tween & Sports Campers groups are homogeneous while Wonderland (preschool only) & Theater Camp are mixed. The SYJCC will make every effort to honor all grouping requests made on the request cards that are mailed home in the camp packet.

Q. DOES THE CAMP PROVIDE LUNCH?

A. We do provide lunch at the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds as well as at the SYJCC building for a fee. Campers may also bring their own lunch which is refrigerated upon arrival at camp. We do provide a drink at lunchtime as well as an afternoon snack each day for every camper. The fee for lunch is $35 a week for a five-day week, $21 per week for a 3 day week & must be purchased by Wednesday of the previous week.

Q. WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF EACH CAMP SESSION?

A. The SYJCC allows you to custom design your summer to fit into your busy schedule & budget. You can sign up for any amount of weeks! The weeks do not need to be consecutive. (Does not apply to Theater Camp which is 4 or 8 weeks.)

Q. MY CHILD HAS SPECIAL NEEDS. DO YOU HAVE A PROGRAM FOR US?

A. Many of our camp programs can accommodate children with a variety of needs. We also have a camp dedicated to children with special needs. Please contact Marci at 631.462.9800 ext. 105 for more information.
