PERSONAL TRAINING

Personal Training is available for SYJCC members.  Sessions are available at a reasonable price:

One (1) – half hour……………$40

Personal Training ensures that your workouts will be safe, efficient & help lead toward your individual goals. Our certified trainers are extremely knowledgeable, supportive & motivational.

Body Blast

A complete head to toe workout sometimes using hand weights & body bars. This class also includes an abdominal mat element focusing on core strength.


Beginners Ballroom & Latin Dance

Learn to dance the foxtrot, the waltz, and more with our professional dance instructor, Norma Granofsky.  Singles and couples are welcome.

Intermediate Ballroom & Latin Dance

H.I.I.T. (High Intensity Interval Training)

Are you ready to take your fitness to the next level? This class includes progressive interval resistance exercises that require a higher level of effort.

Stretch & Tone
A series of non-impact exercises designed to develop strength, flexibility, balance, & inner awareness.

POUND 

The latest trend in the fitness industry using rip stix to drum rhythms to motivational music while you go through a challenging & fun workout. The workout consists of exercises done in a standing & sitting position.

Raising the Barre

This exercise class uses a ballet barre as a focal point for strength & flexibility based exercises.

Senior Shape-Up

A fun fitness workout for the young at heart. This class utilizes easy strength & stretching exercises that can be done while standing or sitting.

SpinCycle

A high energy indoor cycling class accompanied by energizing music and inspiring instructors.

TRX (Additional Fee) 
The TRX workout leverages your body weight & gravity to perform hundreds of challenging exercises.

Yoga

We offer a few different types of Yoga.  All classes use physical postures designed to stretch & strengthen while incorporating relaxation & meditation techniques.

Tai-Chi 
A low impact, slow motion exercise where one learns to breathe deeply & naturally while focusing one’s attention.

Y-sercise
A complete head to toe workout sometimes using hand weights & body bars, and incorporating a dance element. This class also includes an abdominal mat element focusing on core strength.

Zumba

Fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms & easy to follow moves. The result is a non-stop fun fitness party!

POOL SCHEDULE

The SYJCC pool has six lanes and is open to members seven days/week during operational hours.  Lap lanes are limited to two swimmers per lane, unless all swimmers in the lane agree to “circle” swimming.  Members are asked to limit their swim to 45 minutes if other members are waiting for a lane.  Lap swimmers should notify other swimmers in the lane before entering to avoid accidents. The recreation lane is available to our SYJCC members for family swim or exercise.  NO LAP SWIMMING ALLOWED IN THE RECREATION LANE.

When scheduled classes are running, members may be limited to one lap lane and one recreation lane.

SWIM LESSONS

From infants to adults, SYJCC offers swim lessons to all abilities, beginners to advanced swimmers.  For more information or a schedule of current classes, please call 631-462-9800 x132.

Parent & Child Swim (Ages 6 months to 4 years)

Parents and children under the age of four can learn to be safe and have fun in the water.  Find the age group in the link below to find out more about these classes.

Group Swim Lessons (Ages 4-14 years)

We offer small group swim lessons of 3-6 children per instructor, for beginner to advanced swimmers.  Level swim classes are based on the ARC Learn to Swim Program and taught by certified ARC instructors.

Create- a- Class (All ages)

Have a small group of children or adults of similar availability, but can’t find a class that fits your schedule?  We will create a group lesson with 3 or more participants, when you are available.

Private/Semi-Private Swim Lessons  (Ages 6 months to Adult)                                                     

Learn to swim with one of our ARC certified swim instructors and one or two children/adults of same ability.  Swim lesson are tailored to the ability of the swimmers.  Lessons are 30-minutes and can be purchased in packages of 5 or 10.  Days and times are based on instructor availability.   These lessons must be scheduled in advance with the Aquatics Department.  To schedule lessons, call 631-462-9800 x132.

AQUA EXERCISE & ADULT SWIM PROGRAMS

Aqua Aerobics

Low Impact: Tuesday & Thursday, 9:00-10:00am

Medium Impact: Monday 9:30-10:30am, Wednesday & Friday 9:00-10:00am

Evenings: Monday & Thursday,  7:30-8:30pm

Aqua Arthritis: These classes are taught by Arthritis Foundation certified instructors and are intended to alleviate pain and stiffness caused by Arthritis.  It can improve joint flexibility and strength.  

Fridays, 10:00-11:00am

Adult Swim Classes: These classes are designed to teach adults how to swim or improve their strokes.

Beginners:

Tuesday 10:00-10:30am

Adults will learn how to enter and exit the pool safely and control their breathing. As they build their confidence, students will learn proper body position on both their front and back with proper flutter kick. Basic paddle stroke, Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Elementary Backstroke, and basic water safety skills are covered.

Advanced Beginners:

Thursday 4:30-5:00pm

Adults master the swimming strokes in the Learning the Basics level, Freestyle and Backstroke.  Breaststroke, Sidestroke, Butterfly and basic flip turns and turning at the wall are introduced. Treading water and recovery to a swimming position is mastered.

Women’s Only Swim Night: Join us for a private night of swim just for women in our 25m heated indoor pool.

Fee: $10/person  6:00-8:00pm

SWIM TEAMS

Jr. Sharks: A non-competitive swim program for children that will enhance their skills while becoming familiar with the competitive aspect of the sport.  Swimmers must be able to swim 1 lap of front stroke and backstroke and have knowledge of the other 2 competitive strokes, breaststroke and butterfly.  All swimmers are required to attend two practices per week and will be invited to attend a swim competition during the season.

Sharks: A competitive swim program for children that will enhance their skills, practices good sportsmanship & develop a positive work ethic.  Swimmers must be able to swim 1-2 laps of front stroke, back stroke, breaststroke and butterfly based on their age.  All swimmers are required to attend a minimum of three practices per week, Sunday thru Thursday, and attend competitions on Sundays.

AMERICAN RED CROSS CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS

Lifeguard Training Course (Ages 15+)

This course prepares students to respond to emergencies in the aquatic environment. This course will train students in lifeguarding skills, First Aid and CPR/AED. This certification is nationally recognized. Students must successfully pass a pre-skills test to be admitted into the course. Once admitted into the course,  students must attend ALL classes and successfully pass exams.

Lifeguarding Recertification Course

This course is designed for lifeguards whose certification is about to expire.  Students must bring proof of their expiring certification. Students must successfully pass a pre-skills test to be admitted into the course. Once admitted into the course,  students must attend ALL classes and successfully pass exams.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers  & Healthcare Providers Certification Course

This course is designed to  train EMTs, Firefighters, Lifeguards , Athletic Trainers or anyone who is responsible for responding to an emergency.  Students will be trained on a professional level to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical care arrives and takes over.  Students will watch videos and get hands on experience.

CPR/AED for the Professional  Rescuers  & Healthcare Providers Recertification Course

This course is for rescuers whose certification is about to expire. Rescuers can take a recertification course instead of a full course. Students must bring proof of their expiring certification.

Lifeguard Instructor Course
Must be 17 years or older by end of course

This course is open to lifeguards who are interested in teaching  lifeguarding courses. The course has a pre-requisite that will be performed on the first day of class. Upon successful completion of the pre-requisite, students will be accepted into the class. Once accepted into the class students must complete an online  component, as well as attend every class.

Water Safety Instructor Course
Must be 16 years or older by end of course

This course is open to any proficient swimmers who are interested in teaching swimming lessons. This course will introduce you to the world of water safety, ranging from infant and parent classes to adult classes and everything in-between. The course has a pre-requisite that will be performed on the first day of class. Upon successful completion of the pre-requisite, students will be accepted into the class. If taking the blended learning class, once accepted into the class students must complete an online component, as well as attend every class.

Water Safety Instructor Re-Entry Course

This course is designed to allow previous Water Safety instructors and other qualified swimming instructors to participate in a modified and abbreviated instructor course to become current American Red Cross Water Safety instructors.  Students in this course will need to have been a former American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor whose certification has expired no longer than 2 yeas ago or a current certified swim instructor from another nationally recognized organization.
