Kenny Albert

Kenny Albert, a three-time National Sports Emmy Award finalist, is the only play-by-play broadcaster currently calling all four major sports in North America. He is the lead play-by-play voice of the NHL on TNT. The 2024 season marked Albert’s 31st year broadcasting NFL games on FOX (including five NFC Divisional playoff games); he has worked Major League Baseball games on various FOX networks for the past 28 years. Albert is currently in his 29th season as the radio voice of the New York  Rangers, and also calls New York Knicks games on MSG Networks. He has called men’s and women’s ice hockey at the last six Winter Olympics for NBC, as well as track and field, volleyball, baseball, and water polo at the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Summer Games. Albert has called ten Stanley Cup Final series (two on television, eight on radio), in addition to television calls of post-season baseball and basketball, the Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl, NFL Pro Bowl, the international feed of Super Bowl XLVI, and the World Baseball Classic. He has also been behind the mic for Premier Boxing Champions on both NBC and FOX. Albert began his professional career as the radio voice of the American Hockey League’s Baltimore Skipjacks, followed by three seasons calling Washington Capitals games on Home Team Sports. He graduated from New York University in 1990 with a degree in journalism. His autobiography, A Mic for All Seasons, was published in October 2023. Albert resides in northern New Jersey with his wife, Barbara, and daughters Amanda and Sydney.

Aaron Krickstein

As a junior, Krickstein never lost to a younger player. At 16, he won the U.S. National 18s titles in the Indoor, Clay, and National categories. He became the youngest player ever to win a Grad Prix event at 16 years, 2 months, 13 days, when he won at Tel Aviv in 1983. He broke into the top 10 on August 13, 1984 and he was the youngest ever to rank in the top 20. In 1983 he became the youngest male player to reach the RD 16 at the Open (16 years, 1 month). Named 1983 Rookie of the Year by Tennis Magazine (U.S.). He qualified for the Masters in January ’85 and ’85 WCT Dallas Finals. Member of the U.S. David Cup team 1985-1987, 1990.

In 1989 finished a personal-best No. 8 on the ATP computer rankings, his highest since finished No. 12 in 1984. He had a record of 10 career wins from 0-2 set deficits. His nickname “Marathon Man” was a reference to his ability to make a comeback when behind in a match. Krickstein won 28 of his 27 career matches that went into a fifth set.

Krickstein defeated a number of top players, including Ivan Lendl (world #1) in 1990, Michael Stich (world #2 and #4) in 1994 and 1991, Stefan Edberg (world #3) in 1988 at the US Open, Boris Becker (world #3) in 1992, Mats Wilander (world $4) in 1984, Jimmy Arias (world #5) in 1984, and Sergi Bruguera (world #5) in 1994. He also had wins over Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi.

Al Sloman

Born Albert Slominsky in Brooklyn, Sloman started playing pro basketball out of high school. After a few years he enrolled at Arnold College in Connecticut and played basketball for the school team. In 1929 he was both a player and the coach of the team, at the point in the 1920’s, players could play college ball after being professional. He played pro basketball through the mid 1930’s, finished in the 1934-1935 season with stints on the New Britain team in the ABL and the Schenectady squard in the New York League. In 1929 he led New Britain in scoring. In 1968 he received a National Jewish Welfare Board citation for outstanding service development of health and physical education at a JCC. In the 1950’s and 1960’s, AI was a referee for high school basketball, was elected to the Columbia County Hall of Fame in 1974.  In 1976 the gym was renamed for him, and in Albany they had Al Sloman Day.

Tova Gelb

One of the most decorated student-athletes in Vassar College history, Tova Gelb leaves behind a legacy defined by dominance on the court, consistency, and excellence in both athletics and academics. A transformative figure for the Brewers women’s basketball program, Gelb’s journey from a key contributor to a national standout is marked by a relentless work ethic, leadership, and unforgettable performances.

A 2024-25 WBCA All-American, D3Hoops.com Fifth Team All-American, D3hoops.com Region III Player of the Year, and Liberty League Player and Defensive Player of the Year, Gelb etched her name among the greats with a season for the ages. She led both the team and the Liberty League in scoring (18.3 ppg), rebounding (10.4 rpg), and steals (2.7 spg), while shooting an impressive 47.8% from the field. Her all-around brilliance included 18 double-doubles, double-digit scoring in 25 of 28 games, and a single-game program record 36 points in an overtime victory over RIT—the game in which she became the 15th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points.

Throughout her 106-game career, Gelb amassed 1,278 points and averaged 7.3 rebounds per game, showcasing consistent excellence from her first game to her last. As the Liberty League’s Tournament Most Outstanding Player, First Team All-Region III, and First Team All-Liberty League selection in 2023-24, she also earned recognition as a Betty Richey Performer of the Year Award Finalist, cementing her place as one of the elite performers in Vassar Athletics.
Her commitment extended beyond the court, earning Academic All-District honors twice and three times being named to the Liberty League All-Academic Team—a testament to her dedication as a true student-athlete. Gelb’s impact transcends the stat sheet—she was the heart of the program, a leader by example, and a role model to her teammates.
