*NEW Musical Theater Dance 

Grades 5-10

Instructor: Ashley Curtis

Performers will delve specifically into the world of musical theater dance. Students will work on two full length dance numbers directly from a Broadway Musical and work on their expressive dancing in a creative, supportive environment. They will perform their finalized pieces in a showcase at the end of the session.

Cabaret Kids

Grades K-5

This program allows every young performer to feel valued on stage by providing them with the opportunity to explore their potential. Together with the director, each performer chooses a song to sing and writes a monologue. The final product is a show in a cabaret setting where everyone sings at least one solo and performs in group numbers with a live accompanist.

Musical Theater Workshop

Grades 5-8

Instructor: Jen Cove

Wednesdays | 5:00-6:00 pm

Performers will really dive into a song and a character! Actors choose a musical theater song and get to work on the whole scene as it appears in the show! Work on singing and acting in a creative, supportive environment, and perform an entire Broadway scene and song in a showcase at the end of the session.

Improv SNL Jr.

Grades 3-10

Instructor: Jen Cove

Actors will be led through basic improv exercises & games which contribute to the development of social skills and confidence. The focus is on physical expression as well as verbal communication. Students will work together to develop their individual skills in a fun and low-pressure environment while focusing on the fundamental principles of improvisation.

Moms Who Sing!
(Adult Class)

They’re not just ordinary moms! An outlet for moms who sing or want to sing. Learn and perform all genres from Broadway to Pop to Jazz. No prior singing experience necessary!

Tina Indenbaum Scholarship Award for Excellence in Theater 
Stage 74 at the SYJCC

The Suffolk Y JCC remembers Tina Indenbaum and honors her with the creation of The Tina Indenbaum Award for Excellence in Theater at Stage 74. This award was established by her husband Gene Indenbaum, after her passing in August 2022. Tina’s love of the arts will be carried on through this special award and ensures that her legacy lives on by helping a high school student who’s pursing a college degree in theater.

More than half of Tina Indenbaum’s life was spent volunteering in the arts. As co-chair and board member of the SYJCC’s Star Playhouse, she was involved in over 40 productions, and was a staunch supporter of the youth theater program. A select committee will pick the winners based on the qualities the student possesses in their area of expertise and what they have accomplished throughout the year. The criteria and qualities we are looking for, are as follows:

• The student has to be involved in Stage 74 during their senior year of High School.
• The student could be a performer, work with sound, lighting, work behind the stage as a Stage Manager or in another capacity – the student could also be a volunteer.
• The student showed true leadership and expertise – provided guidance to others and possesses a true sense of the collaborative spirit that the Theater is known for.

Scholarship Amount: $500

Private Voice Lessons

Work on the technical aspects of how to sing – such as how to project, improve tone, extend range, increase power, and smooth over your mix. Learn to interpret your song and improve your performance with Sid Cherry, Performing Arts Musical & Building AV Director. We offer 30 minute, 45 minutes, 60 minute, and 90-minute time slots.

All levels from beginner to advanced. Lessons are catered to each individual student.  The class is based on a solid foundation of finger technique and music theory so students know fully what they are playing and how best to play it.  Join Sid Cherry, our Performing Arts Musical & Building AV Director to learn all styles from classical to rock.
