This summer internship was one of the most meaningful things I’ve done last year, and definitively the best thing I could’ve done with myself during the summer. Yes, the first few days will be awkward, both in navigating through interactions with your peers and the adults, but once you get over that initial hurdle, both relationships flourish. I was able to elicit some seriously entertaining, as well as important conversation with the adults, and to be able to foster and cultivate a community filled with people with beautiful experiences and advice is something that is impossible to replicate, and wonderful to experience. This program also demonstrates extremely important leadership and cooperative skills. As you’re forced to sit with other teens to create lesson plans and other projects, you learn how to take charge in certain aspects, and collaborate in others. If that does not entice you, the adults do have a motorized scooter that they drive around and it is very fun to ride. – Melody

At the SYJCC/DOROT internship program, I had such an amazing time and it was such a valuable experience! I truly enjoyed talking to the older adults and learning about their families. If you get the opportunity to be an intern, you will instantly be laughing with and be able to form connections with the older adults. I loved the wide range of activities provided and the fact that the interns plan the activities makes it even better because you get to choose what topics you’re interested in.  I especially loved challah making and coming home with a freshly made challah for Shabbat. Overall, this intern program was such a great opportunity! – Paige
